Assisted living facility 't Huis Kortrijk
In Kortrijk, we served as the main contractor for Woonzorgcampus 't Huis, a significant step towards future-oriented care. The new residential care centre combines innovative architecture with a warm, homely interior. The 132 residents immediately felt at home thanks to the small-scale living model and stylish finishes.
The WZC (residential care centre) consists of three floors and is made up of eight interconnected building blocks, arranged in two H-shaped volumes. Each of the H-shapes houses 64 rooms, divided into smaller living groups and residential houses. This division into ‘families’ of eight residents promotes small-scale, homely living. The semi-public functions, such as nursing stations, day rooms, and kitchens, are located in the connecting beams of the H-structure, while patios at the junctions provide an open, airy atmosphere.
Furthermore, the building was designed with flexibility in mind. Rooms can be easily combined into larger units, allowing the layout to adapt to changing needs.
A conscious decision was made to focus on warmth and comfort, with much attention paid to personalisation and flexibility in the rooms. The common areas are finished with natural materials such as wood and terrazzo and decorated with trendy lighting and comfortable furniture. The subtle details – from semi-circular wooden handles in the hallways to the finishing touches in the kitchens – contribute to the homely feel. Residents can decide how to furnish their spaces, with enough room to create their own sitting area. This contributes to a hotel-like atmosphere, offering residents great freedom within a comfortable and secure environment.
Through close collaboration with the OCMW (Public Centre for Social Welfare) and the involved architects, we delivered a modern, homely residential care campus that provides a warm and functional environment for residents, staff, and visitors alike. This project demonstrates how architecture and thoughtful finishes can help establish a new standard for residential care centres!
