Laying of the first stone for expansion of Marine Station of VLIZ
In Ostend on Tuesday 15 June - in the presence of Minister Hilde Crevits, Mayor Bart Tommelein and Governor Carl Decaluwé - the first stone was laid for the expansion of the Marine Station of the Flanders Marine Institute.
There, the minister solemnly opened a pipeline that will supply the station with fresh seawater and simultaneously also gave the go-ahead for the realization of the master plan for the Marine Station site.
In a first phase, the station is expanding with a new building that will house an innovative robotics and research centre.
The expansion will increase research capacity and meet the needs of the institute's continued and rapid growth.
The design and realization of the site through a Design & Build formula was awarded to the consortium made up of Stadsbader and Claeys/Haelvoet architects.
