Hose Tower ITC Rubis Doel
As a loyal client of our steel construction department, which consists of the full core team from the former ASK Romein Malle, ITC Rubis approached us for the expansion of a hose tower on a fixed pontoon in Beveren (Doel). In the past, we have completed several similar projects for this renowned company, and this time, we were responsible for the production, delivery, and installation of the entire steel structure, including walkways, railings, and cage ladders.
This unique project required a specific approach. As there was insufficient space on the construction site to build the imposing steel structure – 23 metres high, 10 metres wide, and approximately 125 tons heavy (of which 90 tons were galvanised steel) – and installing an assembly crane was not feasible, the pre-assembly of the structure and the techniques took place at the Antwerp Euroterminal (AET), located about 2.5 km away. The entire structure was then transported over water with the help of an 800-ton Brabo pontoon crane to the fixed pontoon of ITC Rubis, a spectacular operation! After that, we could begin the final assembly, which took a few more weeks.
This remarkable achievement showcases our vertical integration. In addition to the prefabricated concrete production at Van Maercke in Kluisbergen, our steel production site in Malle provides significant added value across all sectors in which Stadsbader Group operates. This allowed us to manage everything in-house for this project: steel production, off-site pre-assembly, transport to the construction site, and on-site installation.
With this project, we once again proved that we are an expert partner for more complex steel structures and challenging construction projects in the petrochemical sector. The synergy between our various specialised divisions ensures that we can maximise our in-house expertise, resulting in better quality, faster delivery, and lower costs for our clients!
