During the night of 3 to 4 February, the Stadsbader team once again showed off its ability to deliver high-quality work with the successful placement of girders for a new bridge over the E40. This operation required the highway to be temporarily closed off to all traffic between Aalter and Ghent, but proper preparation and smooth cooperation made it possible to re-open the roadway 2 hours earlier than planned.
A total of 7 girders with an impressive length of 46 meters and a weight of 119 tons each were carefully placed. This marks a crucial milestone in the replacement works of the aging bridges on the E40, which date back to the 1950s and were commissioned by AWV.
Van Maercke Prefab's installation team played a crucial role in the precise placement of the girders. Stadsbader not only took care of the preparatory works on the abutments, but also provided the necessary signage to ensure the smooth running of the temporary closure of the E40. The prestressed beams were manufactured by Ergon and installed using 500- and 700-ton cranes from Sarens.
With this successful bridge placement and the efforts of all teams, we are taking an important step in creating a safer and more modern infrastructure.
