Update on the renovation of the Beveren Tunnel in Antwerp

Since the start on 15 July 2024, Consortium TM Bever - consisting of BESIX, BESIX Infra, BESIX Unitec, Stadsbader, STADSBADER CONTRACTORS and Equans - has made significant progress with the renovation works in the Beveren Tunnel, carried out on behalf of the Flemish Agency for Roads and Traffic.

The water treatment plant is now operational and during 5 weeks of intensive demolition work the tunnel tube Netherlands towards Ghent was completely stripped, from road surface to techniques. After which a sandwich layer was applied over the entire length and width of the tunnel.

In the meantime, the first concrete strip of 7.82 m wide and 1 km long was also laid and after 7 days of hardening, the second strip of 4.44 m wide followed over the same length. It was a marathon 2 times ± 2 days, with colleagues from Stadsbader and BESIX Infra working alternately in 12-hour shifts!

Now that these works have been completed, the construction phase – including fire-resistant cladding, new technologies and barriers – can begin.

Together we are building a safe and modern tunnel for the future!
