Wijngaard bridge Geraardsbergen

Thorough renovation of the Wijngaard bridge.

The Wijngaard bridge can be found in the heart of Geraardsbergen, a place known for its mattentaarten and cycling .
This bridge underwent thorough renovations, as part of which our civil engineering department was responsible for complete metal preservation, concrete repairs and replacement of the road deck panels.

Our engineering colleagues stripped the electromechanical part. All existing hydraulics, cylinders and electricity systems were removed and reinstalled. The overall design was done and coordinated in-house. The 120 T bridge is now raised 3.35 meters in 90 seconds by 4 hydraulic cylinders. These are fed per bank by 1 hydraulic system, with 2 hydraulic pumps each, and can operate separately or together. The big challenge here is to keep the bridge level. In addition, new barriers and new shipping and lane signals were provided.

The entire system is controlled by new electrical switchboards, whose construction was carried out by the team in Dessel, with an automation PLC and frequency drives to drive the bridge. The bridge can be operated in several modes: locally via button control, touch display, emergency control and eventually by remote control.

To finish things off, new street lighting was also installed and mood lighting was added to each side of the lift towers.
