Technics department installs fully automatic fine grid with container discharge at Water-link

During the summer months, Water-link, Flanders' largest water supplier, often struggles with large amounts of organic growth in the water. Removal of these growths was always done manually in the past, but was very labour intensive.

As part of further optimization for Water-link, our Technics Department was allowed to take on the entire Design & Build to develop a solution. A fully automatic fine grid 6m high and 3m wide was installed in the supply channel of the drinking water plant.

To dispose of the large quantities of duckweed, a steel structure was designed on top of the supply channel to hold a dewatering container. Two rows of bulkhead beams were provided for machine maintenance. Underwater concrete was even poured to overcome unforeseen problems with floor and walls.

Not a simple task considering the drinking water plant had to remain operational at all times and no contamination was allowed to enter the plant. Protection tarps, temporary pumps and measuring equipment were placed to protect and monitor water quality during the works.

A unique project with a satisfied end customer, so goal achieved!
